Topic: Honest opinions wanted

OK, this looks about as cool as it can be,  but....

I would like to get some honest feednack on what it can do and what on the website Flash presentation is just what is planned for the future.  Does it work as advertised or is it so bug-ridden that you would advise a would-be buyer to wait a while longer until it is perfected?  They advertise RFID, but apparently this is just something that might happen in the future - is that not false advertising?

I would like to get one, but do not want to throw $200 away to be a beta-tester.  Please be honest, not just a fan-boy.

Re: Honest opinions wanted

1. RFID is not yet officially supported bt Violet. Also, they had some issues with their servers these days but everything is working now even better then it was before.

2. Streaming radio can be glitchy sometimes but it is working OK for me most of the time.

3. If you want custom RSS feeds, unlimited messeging and sending messages via e-mail, you have to get Full subscription which is around 4 euros a month.

Although I don't have full subscription, I am quiet happy with my rabbit to be honest. It is a great hacker toy and it's usefl when you get used to having the bunny around. There is also oben nab server so you can host your own nanaztag server and you can use it  alongside official one. API is easy and fun to play with it. It's annoying that nabaztag still don't have RFID support and it's been promised to become available by now. I think they'll have to implement the feature soon. Overall, I like my nabaztag /tag.

Re: Honest opinions wanted

There was an announcement on then French forum today. As far as I know, RFID is now available.

Well... At least on French Nabazstore since the package Bunny+RFID book is only with a French book:
http://store.nabaztag.com/eu/product_in … ucts_id=64
I don't think anybody ever bought this item yet.

For those using opennab, there's now a plugin that triggers http calls on RFID (but this might not be an honest feedback because I advertise my own "product")

Re: Honest opinions wanted

I don't know if I would recomend paying $200 for this in its current state.  It'll be cool when it works though. . .

"It's French. Shrug your shoulders and make a noise like 'poof!' when it's not working properly"

Re: Honest opinions wanted

On the other hand, I'd say get it if you're a hacker and can play with the API.  There's a lot of potential in the hardware. And get the tag/tag since the extra abilities are pretty neat.

Re: Honest opinions wanted

Agreed. Only spend your cash on a rabbit if you're tech-savvy and like spending hours and hours playing with the API, like me. smile

TBH, I'm pretty happy with my bunny!

Re: Honest opinions wanted

Honestly, I would not purchase the rabbit a second time.

Where are the problems? A number of features do not work as advertised. RFID support is not here yet (after a 12 months of delay - so far!), voice activation does not work as advertised. If you want to program, you are bound to a server side API utilizing Violet's infrastructure. Their servers are quite slow at times, and it may take minutes until the rabbit responds - if it responds at all.

If you browse the forum here, you will also find a fair number of people experiencing mechanical faults. Read about their experiences in replacing faulty rabbits.

Speaking as someone dealing with software and software security, I should also add that the rabbit may pose a severy security risk and should not be connected to office networks under any circumstances whatsoever (the problem is, rabbit reveals the WLAN passwords in clear text at the push of a button).

Yes, the rabbit design is adorable, and yes it's a genius idea. However, poor execution spoils the great concept. I cannot recommend the Nabaztag.

I agree 100% with cloink.  If you're not into playing around with using the API, it's a lot of money for limited applications, and you need to pay a subscription free for the more advanced ones.  That said, I'm very happy with mine, and my wife says I spend far too much time playing around with getting it to do things using the API.  She likes the fact that I set it up to give us a traffic update every weekday morning on two of our possible commuting routes, though.

If you get it, definitely get the more expensive tag/tag.  It has more capability, and the capability is worth the price difference.

Re: Honest opinions wanted

The subscription fee is gone since quite some time. All services are now open for everybody and there is no limit on how many messages you can send to other bunnies anymore.
