Topic: Nabaztag files for bankruptcy?

http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/11/naba … ankruptcy/

It hasn't really been confirmed and there is still a lot to happen, but I'm here in case of a worse case scenario where the servers go down and they leave users with no extra code.

My friend has really been wanting one for a while, and I've read a couple pages here about the APIs and various ways of controlling a rabbit. Can I assume that almost all of the functionality of the original servers can be replicated user-side with either a server ran on their desktops or with an application (without any interaction from the official servers)? With this news, will anybody attempt to make an alternate fan-run server?

Re: Nabaztag files for bankruptcy?

Yeah, that's the question we've been asking today too.  I think there are already some open source solutions out there, but I haven't checked them out in much detail.  I'm not ready to give up on my nabaztags, so I hope this isn't the end.

Re: Nabaztag files for bankruptcy?

I really hope they don't shut down the servers in September. I've been trying to catch up with what's been happening. However, it's all in french - and google translation isn't the best. There are some open source server options from what I can make out.
but nothing anywhere as near as nice as the violet services.

Re: Nabaztag files for bankruptcy?

Unfortunately, some, if not all of these tools worked with the old code, not the newere, jabber based server, and OpenJabNab has been around awhile with no release.  Any idea if any of these older attempts can work with rabbits that have been boot coded to the newer protocol?  Can one go back and use jnabserver some how?

At least there's some hope for a reprieve.
Guess well have to stay tuned next week.

Re: Nabaztag files for bankruptcy?

Is anyone aware of where things have got to?

I'm pleased that the servers still seem to be working and I'm hoping that the service will continue to function.

However, there are some freely available servers and I am willing to host a publically available server on behalf of the community of people that wish to keep using their rabbits.

Obviously, to begin with, it wouldn't be as feature-full as the old Violet offering, but the intention would be to build a community, get the bunnies connected and then see where to take things from there.

Regards,
@ndy

Re: Nabaztag files for bankruptcy?

As mentioned on other threads, the European company Mindscape has bought Violet (the makers of Nabaztag).  Hopefully the bunnies will continue.  One of several news reports (in French):
