Topic: "Music - UK Style"

Description"Musical mush....not uk music - but the music I love."

Nesbit (who I imagine is a British Rabbit), sent out two songs recently.  The first, he called only "Sheep."  I have no clue what it is.  It sounds like a pseudo-Rockabilly type thing with keyboards.  Not a fan.

The second was a track from the seminally silly (and good in their own special way) The Cure.  The track is called "Lovecats" and it features Robert Smith crooning about tigers and stuff.  It's quite fun.  Though I can't really ever hear this cat's (har har) voice without thinking of him becoming gigantic and killing Mecha-Streisand...

Cheers,
BK

Mr. Psycho by Space

COOL!!!  I loved "Female of the Species" by this group back when I was a teen.  I had never heard another song of theirs, and this Ween meets Mr. Bungle tune is pretty wicked, if I say so myself.  I'm gonna go find me some more of these Liverpudlians...

Cheers,
BK

Re: "Music - UK Style"

I just got a really, really pretty Leonard Cohen track called "Bird on a Wire."  It has a lovely acoustic guitar line that I believe I will go learn this weekend.

Thanks!

Shame on you - I bet you know who some of the members of the HouseMartins are ?

The Housemartins are often referred to as "the 4th best band in Hull" - and you've never heard of them!

Sheep Lyrics :

Sometimes I get so angry with the simple life they lead
The shepherds smile seems to confirm my fears
They've never questioned anything, they've never disagreed
Sometimes I think they must have wool in their ears

And when you see a can I see a crook
And when you see a crowd I see a flock
It's sheep we're up against
Sheep we're up against

When I was young they used to get me counting sheep
But the counting I did was all in vain
Now when I'm tired and I'm trying to get to sleep
I count humans jumping onto trains

And when you see a can I see a crook
And when you see a crowd I see a flock
It's sheep we're up against
Sheep we're up against

[Influential Guitar Break]

And when you see a can I see a crook
And when you see a crowd I see a flock
It's sheep we're up against
Sheep we're up against

================

I have a few more of their classic hits lined up over the next few days - to convert the 'Not a fan' clan.

Cheers

For this use of clever bracketing alone, I will listen to more of this band.  Oh, and I really love Fatboy Slim's first two solo records... so I'm intrigued.  Hit me!

Re: "Music - UK Style"

NERD ALERT!!!  We have a They Might be Giants fan here!!!  Just kidding, I love this group.  They were quite popular amongst my friends and I back in high school.

This latest song is called "Racist Friends" and brings their trademark social commentary and wicked humor onto the topic (one topic I have sadly had way too much personal experience with myself).  So, to all of you out there who have been to a party with a friend, and then heard what they have to say after a few beers, and then find yourself in a widly uncomfortable situation, this song is for you...

Cheers,
BK

Re: "Music - UK Style"

For me??  For me?!?  Thanks!

I'm assuming this is another HouseMartin's tune?  Whatever it is, I like it.  A nifty ska-ish tune which reminds me fondly of listening to Fishbone, etc. back in high school.

Thanks again!
